A Geordie to the Core, Joel’s interest in Snowboarding came through his solid background of surfing.
Joel began snowboarding in the winter of 1996 after a surf trip to the Canary Islands was called off. The snowboard seed was planted during this last minute trip to the Alps. 100 metre bottom turns and massive powder slashes replaced the winter, cold water surf. Since then Joel has progressed through the BASI snowboard Training system, reaching the highest qualification, BASI Snowboard Teacher. Joel’s passion for surf has given him a unique insight into snowboarding, and his relaxed style is the envy of many riders. He views the mountain as a big wave canvas, with the piste an ideal place to jib. Joel now dedicates half his time to snowboarding.
Joel is also one of Europe’s most highly regarded surf coaches. Surf Solutions (surfsolutions.info) is his summer interest, based primarily in South West France. He is also heavily involved with coaching the British and English Junior surf teams. This has all helped in his solid belief of true technique being the basis to progression in any boardsport, no matter what level you're at.
